The Armature

The first thing I needed to get the ball rolling was a completed, fully jointed armature. I wanted it to have most (if not all) of the joints of the original puppet while keeping the cost down as much as possible. Since I am in no way a machinist I turned to my good friend Tom Brierton to tackle this first obstacle. I was able to give Tom plenty of really cool reference photos of the original puppet provided to me by Guy as well as a couple of small pics of the original armature found in several Star Wars art books. Two of these reference books also had dimensions of the original puppet so we knew what scale we needed to work in. After about a week Tom had the armature finished and ready for me to take over, it was a pretty basic representation of the original armature with not quite as many points of articulation as the original but it could still achieve the same basic range of motion.
